ANOTHER SPS SEMINAR DEDICATED TO THE MEDIA SUCCESSFULLY FINISHED

In organization of School of Political Studies, a seminar entitled “Ethical Media Reporting on Socially Vulnerable Groups” took place last weekend in Ulcinj.The seminar opened Stefan Almehagen Sandstad, Second Secretary of the Royal Embassy of of Norway, Boris Raonić, President of Civic Alliance and Director of School of Political Studies, and Predrag Nikolić, Member of the Main Board of Trade Union of Media. Dragan Sjekloća, news editor at Al Jazeera TV, gave an introductory lecture on media reforms in the region and political influences.

The second part of the seminar was dedicated to ethical challenges in the media, media accountability and professional standards, with special emphasis on reporting on vulnerable groups, as well as attacks and pressures on journalists and the consequences for freedom of expression, cooperation of Montenegrin journalists and state institutions, economic sustainability of Montenegrin media and political pressures. The same day, Dritan Abazović, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro addressed the participants who commented on the state of the media in Montenegro and pointed out that there is certainly room for improvement in the state of the media in terms of ethics and professionalism in Montenegro. We also dealt with the social and economic conditions in which Montenegrin journalists work and the protection of their labor rights. The last day of the seminar was reserved for ethical media reporting in times of crisis and regulation of media content on digital platforms.
